Emily A. Grayson of Silver Spring, MD passed away on January 26, 2018, at the age of 94, surrounded by her family.

Born in Somerville, NJ, Mrs. Grayson was the daughter of the late Gustave and Helen Angelakos. She spent much of her life in Vienna, West Virginia prior to moving to Maryland in 2001. She was the wife the late George Grayson and predeceased by her sister, Mary Angelakos Mayer. She is survived by her two sons, Craig (Nancy) of Olney, MD, and Grant (Leslie) of Richmond Virginia, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Grayson was very dedicated and active in her church. In Maryland, she became involved with the Episcopal Churchwomen and African Palms program at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Olney. Prior to moving to Maryland, she was a long-time member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Parkersburg, WV, a place she loved dearly.

Mrs. Grayson had a long career in retail office management where she developed a keen interest in using computers. She was always quick to embrace change and enjoyed learning new things and communicating with her friends. She spent several years as the editor of her community newsletter and creating materials for her church and other organizations.

Mrs. Grayson was very active in PEO, an international philanthropic organization. Her other many interests included travel, needlework, and entertaining. Her special passion was playing bridge with her many friends. She began playing at a young age and continued throughout her life. This brought her a great deal of joy.

A very social and outgoing person, Mrs. Grayson was happiest when she was with her friends and family. You could always be sure that she would have a kind word or a smile for young and old, a new acquaintance or an old friend. She was especially happy when surrounded by her family and their families and in the most recent years, watching her great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 10:30am at St. John's Episcopal Church, 3427 Olney-Laytonsville Rd., Olney, MD 20832. Donations may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church.
