Ferdinand William Dommel Jr. “Bo”, passed away on June 2nd 2022 at the age of 79. 

Born in Washington D.C. on November 23 1942,  to F William Dommel Sr, and Jane Louise Dommel.

Bill Retired from NIH after a 32 year career as  Director of Education, Office of Protection from Research Risk. He also held several senior level position including Director, Division of Human Subject Protections and Acting Executive Director, National Bioethics Advisory Committee. His work led to human research subjects receiving more protections. He had great respect for all people, and this showed in every aspect of his life and relations with his family and friends. He influenced positively so many people   

Prior, he graduated from Charlotte Hall Boarding School in MD, Joined the Navy and after being honorably discharged went to Law school at American University, where he earned his Juris Doctorate degree.

Bo enjoyed traveling, the beach, and family gatherings. He was fun to be around and was known for his witty personality, gift to talk in great length about any topic, and ability to sing up a storm at family gatherings! 

 “Bo”, was preceded in death by his parents, Ferdinand W. and Jane Dommel, former wife Judy, nephew David Michael Dommel and niece Alison Harrigan.

He is survived by his Husband Carlos A Gonzalez, Tom Dommel and wife Liz, Winnie Harrigan and husband Mike, Brother-in-law Juan Gonzalez and wife Maria Fernanda, sister-in-law in law Martha Franco and  her husband Carlos; Also nieces and nephews Debbie Daymude, Elizabeth Haines and her husband John, Lorraine Dommel, Tommy Dommel and wife Lauren, Michael Harrigan and his wife Marta, Alejandra Franco and Emma Gonzalez.

Bo was adored by and enjoyed spoiling his many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.  He also leaves behind dear cousins, many close friends, and his beloved dog “Princess SummerFallWinterSpring”.

Relatives and friends may visit on Thursday, June 9, 2022 from 9:30am to 10:30am at the Roy W. Barber Funeral Home, 21525 Laytonsville Rd., Laytonsville, MD 20882, where a funeral service will be held at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Norbeck Memorial Park in Olney, MD.
