Susan Lynn Miller, originally of Takoma Park, MD, most recently residing in Ellerslie, MD, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Devlin Manor in Cumberland, MD.
Born July 30, 1958 in Washington, DC, Susan was the daughter of the late Joseph Andrew Miller and surviving Mary Elizabeth McCauley Miller. She was preceded in death by her Grandparents Joseph E. McCauley and Ruth “Honey” E. Estelle McCauley, her brothers Joseph Andrew Miller, Jr., David Brian Miller and Mark Patrick Miller, her Aunts Helen Cherico, Ann Bramhall, and Liza “Cheetah” Poole, her Uncles Mortimer Whitehead, Joseph McCauley, John McCauley and James McCauley and nephew Anthony Miller.
Susan spent most of her life in Montgomery County MD where she became a caretaker and homemaker at a very young age, caring for her Grandmother Honey who became disabled with the birth of her first child. Susan did as she has done for so many in her family, she worked tirelessly and became a critical part of the family foundation and support system. Caring for everyone, from the young to her elders, became Susan’s path forward in life. Susan enjoyed gardening, being outside, and a good movie night with an occasional cold refreshment. She loved her friends and always had the inside scoop on family gossip. She was fierce defender of her loved ones, and just like her spirit animal, the owl, she was soft, tender and just as wise. Her happiest moments were the times she spent with her children and grandchildren, best friends, and her life partner she loved unconditionally.
Susan is survived by her three sons, Joseph A. Miller III and wife Karen Cuddy, Robert S. Hicks and Jeremy S. Hicks, her grandchildren Ashley Ramey and Joseph A. Miller IV, Kayla Hicks, and Jeremy Hicks Jr., her great grandson Landen Andrews, her brothers Daniel Miller and Sister-in-law Mary Clahane, Anthony Miller, and Michael Miller, sister-in-law Julie V. Miller, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, along with her best friend who was more like a sister, Bridgette Lavaute and her daughter Delaney Ryan, the daughter Susan never had, her dear friend Cindy McDaniels in Oklahoma, her Love in Life Partner Taylor Wardrick, Amie Kuhn and family, as well as her ‘Mountain Friends” whose friendships she valued for the last 17 years of her life: The Baker Family, The Schaffer Family, and The Krepps Family. Thank you all for sharing your love and always being there for Susan and her family.
