Rose Fones Obituary

Rose Hannah (Gilpin) Fones

August 30, 1934-October 31, 2022 of Sandy Spring, Maryland passed away at the age of 88.

Daughter of Frederic Stabler and Hannah Ball Gilpin. Sister to Frederic Lea Gilpin (Linda) of Florida. Preceded in death by her husband Frank G. Sr. and daughter Sandra Lynne. She is survived by her 3 sons, David of Spencerville, Frank G. Jr. (Gil) and Barbara of Laytonsville and Alan of Montgomery Village, Maryland, as well as 7 grandchildren.

Roseanne was a lifelong member of Saint Luke's Episcopal Church for all of her 88 years. She served on the vestry for many years, volunteered at the annual Candle Festival and a member of the quilting club. She and Frank were married at Saint Luke's September 1, 1956.

Roseanne was a volunteer of 46 years to the Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and was the current Chaplain and the Department Assistant Chaplain until her death. She was a volunteer to the Women's Board Med Star Montgomery General Hospital for 52 years. She was a Lifetime member of the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair where she for many years worked in the main fair office after retiring from the Montgomery County Police Department as a dispatcher. In her early years Roseanne worked at the Army Map Service, Glen Echo Maryland, where she met her husband Frank.

Roseanne was a wealth of knowledge to her roots in Montgomery County and the surrounding area. She prided herself on the history of Sandy Spring and the residents who lived there that went back generations. Conversations could last hours and were more a history lesson to many who were in her presence.

If you were lucky enough to sit at her table whether a special occasion or not, you for sure did not leave hungry. Roseanne, Mom, Nana could put on a meal few could forget. Her table settings were impeccable. The fresh flowers, lit candles, fine china and sterling silver flatware were a tribute to her attention to detail. She loved a house full of family and friends enjoying the labor of love that went into every meal. Roseanne loved serving her community, her friends and most of all her family.
