Katherine Irene Rabenstein

Katherine Irene Rabenstein, 68, of Washington, D.C. passed away Monday, Jan 23, 2023. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 12:00 on Jan 30, 2023 at the Barber Funeral Home in Laytonsville, MD. Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery.  It is respectfully requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Kathy’s honor may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Kathy was born Feb 1, 1954 in Pennsylvania to Wilber and Natalie Rabenstein. As a child she lived in Pennsylvania and Arizona. In 1972 she graduated from St. Thomas High School in Braddock, Pa. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in International and Developmental Economics from Georgetown University.

Her passion most recently was being the family historian, researching and writing about her ancestry. She was also an avid Bridge player participating in many tournaments. However, she took the most joy in learning, writing, and witnessing about her Christian faith.

She is survived by her mother; sister, Barbara Illinger; and brother, Kenneth Rabenstein . She is also survived by four nieces and nephews; Anastasia and Joshua Illinger; and Melinda and William Rabenstein. She was preceded in death by her father, Wilber Rabenstein and her brother Wilber (Butch) Rabenstein.

Kathy was a caring, talented, loving daughter and sister who will be greatly missed.
