John Henry Pflieger, Sr. passed away peacefully on February 2, 2024 at the age of 96.
He was born in Washington D.C. to John and Dorothy Pflieger on January 22, 1928. He had one sister Patricia.
He was predeceased by his wife of 32 years, D. Marie Pflieger.
“Jack” graduated from St. John’s College High School in 1946 and promptly enlisted in the U.S. Army.
He served in Trieste, Italy at the close of World War II.
He continued to serve his country in the Reserves, retiring in the rank of full colonel, while working for the U.S. Government in the Department of Defense.
Among the many organizations Jack participated in were the Boy Scouts of America, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars where he became the State Commander of Maryland. He was a life member of the Reserve Officers Association
and a charter Board of Directors member for Olney Boys Club
His most important role came as father to his three children John Jr., Karen (and husband Mike) and Tom (and wife Rae).
His proudest moments were seeing his seven grandchildren grow up. They lovingly call him their POP POP: Lauren (and husband Russell), Matt (and wife Jessica), Jeb (and Ali), Dan (and wife Kerri), Brad (and Karlee), Grace (and husband Harrison) and Lee (and wife Amanda).
When he became a great grandfather, he wanted them to call him Three POP. They are Stowe (6), Bennett (5), Brooklyn (3),
Monroe (2) and Charlotte (6 months).
Services will be held on Saturday February 10 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Olney. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
