Carl Franceski, Sr. Obituary

Carl Robert Franceski Sr., 74, from Laytonsville, MD passed away on September 26th, 2022, after a long and valiant battle against cancer at Holy Cross Hospital in Germantown, MD.

Born in Rahway, NJ and raised in Linden, NJ, Carl attended Linden High School. Shortly after graduating, Carl was drafted into the Vietnam War. After completing his boot camp at Fort Sill in Lawton, OK, Carl was deployed to Vietnam. As a member of the 2nd Battalion, 4th Field Artillery Regiment, Carl fought bravely before his honorable discharge in 1970 after nearly two years of active duty.

Soon after his arrival back to the United States, Carl attended Fairleigh Dickinson University and acquired his Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering and minor in Marketing.

Carl started his professional career at Ecolab and in due time met his beautiful wife of 44 years, Victoria. They purchased their first house in Linden, NJ before Carl received a promotion transferring them to Derwood, MD. Not long after their arrival to Maryland, Victoria became pregnant with their first son, Carl Jr. (C.J.) while moving into their now, long time home in Laytonsville, MD.  Fourteen months after CJ’s birth, Nicholas came along, and their family tribe was complete.

As a devout Catholic, Carl was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and regular Usher at St. John Neumann Parish for Saturday evening mass. Near and dear to Carl’s heart was his proud service and relationship with the US Armed Forces. Carl was regularly involved in helping active, retired, and disabled members of the armed forces. Every year he would plant hundreds of American Flags in their neighborhood and nearby communities. In his free time, he loved to play golf and regularly ran, participating in multiple marathons and countless races. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family, attending his boys’ sporting events and family trips to the beach in Ocean City, NJ.

Carl will be remembered for his wicked sense of humor, bravery, grit, hard work, commitment, and his unrelenting positive attitude. As a man who fought in war, he also fought in life.

Son of the late Robert and Mary Franceski and brother of the late Mary Squeglia.

Carl is survived by his beloved wife, Victoria nee Vanderslice, his two sons, Carl Jr. (C.J.) and Nicholas, his daughter-in-law, Ashley, and his grandson, Bryce.
