Barbara Corn Obituary

Barbara "Barb" Jean Olson Corn (83) died peacefully on December 27, 2020. Born and raised in Mendota, Illinois she is the daughter of the late Dorothy Gimbel and Erman Olson. She had fond memories of growing up with her late brothers Larry and Gary and her sister Elaine. In her early 20's Barb became the older step-sister to Melvette and Linda Damm.

Barb was an avid reader all her life and studied business, typing and shorthand at Mendota High School. Upon graduation she was recruited by the FBI and at the age of 17 she traveled to Washington, DC with one suitcase and five dollars. While working for the FBI she met her late husband Frank E. Corn, Sr. and they were married (59 years). After staying home to raise her children she returned to work for the FBI in the same office where her husband was an agent. They were inseparable and enjoyed life to the fullest.

Barb was always enthusiastically busy, baking, knitting, sewing, painting, doing puzzles and gardening. She was fond of traveling, the beach, fishing, crabbing and playing cards with friends and family. Athletic throughout her life she enjoyed basketball, tennis, bowling and swimming. Aside from spending time with family and friends one of her greatest joys in life was horseback riding.

She retired with her late husband, to the house they built in Laytonsville, Maryland. There she was able to keep her horse, Shadow, where she spent many days riding in the woods and fields. She created many lasting memories with family and friends throughout her life.

Beloved by her family she is survived by her two children: Melanie (Donald Tomanek) and Frank, Jr. (Jennifer). Five grandchildren: Karl Tomanek, Stephanie Tomanek, Shawn, Frank III, Mandy, and seven great grandchildren, Grant, Peyton, Kennedy, Olivia, Carter, Ava and one on the way.

Rest in peace, Nonnie
