William K. Stark was born in Westville, NY, on February 1, 1943, and peacefully passed away at home on May 21, 2024. A resident of the Maryland area since the 1960s, William, affectionately known as Bill, lived a life marked by dedication, ingenuity, and a love for adventure.
As a young man, he found his passion in the exhilarating world of motor racing, where he competed with the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). His skill behind the wheel and his love for the sport brought him joy and camaraderie throughout his racing career.
In addition to his pursuits on the racetrack, Bill was a gifted telecommunications engineer, contributing his expertise to AT&T for many years. His sharp mind and innovative spirit were instrumental in the development of telecommunications technology, leaving a lasting impact on the industry. He also served as a shop steward for the Communications Workers of America (CWA), advocating for the rights and well-being of his fellow workers.
Beyond his professional and racing pursuits, Bill was admired for his warmth, generosity, and steadfast loyalty to his friends, neighbors, and family. He was affectionately referred to as Papa Bill by many. As a devoted father and grandfather, he treasured moments spent with his loved ones, crafting cherished memories that will endure for generations.
Bill was also an avid DIY enthusiast, showcasing an exceptional knack for building or repairing nearly anything, showcasing his resourcefulness and love for hands-on craftsmanship. He also took great joy in imparting these skills to his children and grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his daughter Frances Weiss and her husband Jeff, his son Kenneth Stark, his stepdaughters Sheila Thomas and Carla Thomas with her husband Randee Wilson, as well as his grandchildren Angel Allen, Jacob Weiss, Hope Weiss, and William Stark. He is also survived by his beloved siblings David, Bruce, and Donald, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Bill's first wife, Wanda Vicari, passed away after their marriage ended in divorce. He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Hermione Glass Stark, his grandson, Kenneth Clyde Stark, Jr. as well as his two brothers, Howard and Frank.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A viewing and service will be held at Barber Funeral Home on Sunday, May 26 from 2 to 4 pm.
