Warren L. Derrick

Warren was 18 months old when his family moved to Ashton, Maryland. As an infant Warren won the award given by Dr. Bird at the Montgomery County Fair for the healthiest baby, weighing 25 pounds at six months old. Warren was raised in Ashton UMC, began singing in the Senior Choir when he was 16 years of age and sang in the choir for 60 years. Warren also served Ashton UMC as a member of the Men’s Group, and on Trustees for several terms. He helped feed the homeless, served many times at the Lord’s Table and helped with church plumbing, electrical, and maintenance. Warren ran the family Derrick’s Esso Service Center in Ashton for 31 years. For 20 years he worked at Friends House Retirement Community as Director of Maintenance (building and grounds). Warren drove a bus for the Winter Growth Day Care Center, where he took Senior Citizens to and from the Center each day. Warren has proudly served the Sandy Spring Lions Club for 54 years. In 2010 Warren and Carole moved to their home in Leisure World where Warren was active for a few years in the LW Wood Shop. He enjoyed playing Lawn Bowling there and helped to deliver the Leisure World News. His favorite thing to do was play tennis, sing with his men’s quartet group, and the weekly Bible Study. His very, very favorite thing to do was to play with the 8 grandchildren and spend time with the younger 10 great grandchildren. Warren did have a full and rewarding life. Happy Days!
