Thomas Phillip Hobbs, of Laytonsville, Maryland died peacefully on January 12, 2024. Beloved husband to Kimberly, devoted and loving father to Carolyn Linthicum (Chris) and Christy Powell (Kevin), and proud grandfather of Thomas Powell, Ryan Linthicum, Carly Linthicum and Natalie Powell.
Tommy was born in Olney, Maryland and was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County. He was the son of Mary A. and Donald R. Hobbs Sr., the brother of Shirley Hobbs Martin (Don), Donald R. Hobbs Jr. (Ruth), David Hobbs (Cathy), Charlotte Kirk (Isaac) and Steven Hobbs (Joan). In addition to his siblings, he was cherished by his cousins and many nieces and nephews.
Tommy’s life was one of strong work ethic and devotion to family and community service. He was a successful entrepreneur, and a lifetime member of the Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department, the Sandy Spring Lions Club, the Montgomery County Agriculture Center and Ashton United Methodist Church where he also served as a trustee board member. He proudly enlisted and served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1963.
Tommy was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed competition along with the countless lifelong friendships he forged.
An eternal optimist with a passion for life, he was always willing to lend a hand to others. He will live on in the memories of those whose lives he touched.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 11am at Ashton United Methodist Church, 17314 New Hampshire Ave., Ashton, MD 20861. A reception will be held at Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department, 17921 Brooke Rd., Sandy Spring, MD 20860.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department or Ashton United Methodist Church.
