Thomas Deckard Obituary

Thomas C. Deckard of Germantown, MD journeyed into heaven Sunday, June 26, 2022, with his wife of 30 years at his side. He is survived by his wife Linda S. Hammond-Deckard, his sons Thomas Scott Deckard (Jenna) and Matthew Todd Deckard (Shannayl) and step-daughter Julie Anne Kim; grandsons Maxwell Deckard, Finley Deckard, Koylen Deckard, Berkely Kim and Hayden Kim & recently adopted grand-daughter Kiersten Deckard; his siblings Donald Deckard, Colleen Fickes (Dalton), Kate Reid (Doug) and Donna Deckard; two nieces and a nephew. He was predeceased by his parents Donald and Charlotte Deckard and sister Patricia Spangler. Tom was born in Harrisburg, PA; grew up in Camp Hill, PA and graduated from Camp Hill High School. As a teenager, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and served for 4 years, during the Viet Nam era. He worked more than 22 years for IBM and after retiring from there, worked for the U.S. Department of Commerce – NOAA for an additional 14 years; retiring for a 2nd time in 2014. He was a diehard fan of the Phillies, Eagles and Flyers teams. He shared many experiences with his wife and friends – spending time at various beaches along the east coast; skiing mountains in Colorado; Idaho; Oregon; New Hampshire; Pennsylvania and northern California; white-water rafting along the Arkansas River in Colorado; exploring Alaska; many trips to the Hawaiian Islands; cruising the Caribbean and Mediterranean seas and was always ready for another adventure. He was dedicated to serving his church; was very capable at fixing things around the house and was always willing to help neighbors in need of assistance. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, friend and neighbor. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved watching his grandsons participate in ice hockey and youth baseball games. He will be greatly missed by all of his family, friends and neighbors, but after dealing with several serious health issues, he was called home by God and is no longer suffering. A service of burial will be held at 3:00pm, that afternoon, at Rolling Green Cemetery; 1811 Carlisle Road; Camp Hill, PA 17011, followed by a gathering of family and friends at Eberly’s Mill Church of God; 115 Creek Road; Camp Hill, PA 17011
