Scott Charles Loomis was born on March 18, 1952 in Washington, DC to Arlene and Charles Loomis. He joined his older brothers Gary and Brian as they spent their childhood years in Glenmont, MD. Scott attended Glenmont Elementary and Belt Jr. High. He had a real love of playing catcher in a youth baseball league.
At Wheaton High School Scott participated in wrestling and football, with teams reaching championship levels. Years later he was elected to Wheaton High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame… a proud moment.
Scott attended the University of Maryland on a football scholarship, graduating in 1974 with a BS in Recreation and Planning.
Beginning in 1974 Scott served the community in many roles as a police officer with the Montgomery County Police Department. From patrol, to traffic motor officer, academy instructor, and finally as a detective in the Family Crimes Division. He retired in 2002.
As his family and friends will know, Scott was really a builder at heart. In his decades spent as a general contractor Scott built many homes, additions, and remodelings. He could design, construct and fix just about anything. Recently, as a member and trustee at Mt. Airy Baptist Church in Mt Airy, Maryland, Scott shared his God given talents with the many friends he made there. His walk with our Lord was made in overalls there!
Above all of Scott’s many accomplishments in his life the most important to him was his relationship with his son Conor. Scott’s unending love, patience, and guidance is evident in his son’s life. They were best friends. Scott married his high school sweetheart, Brigid McGuire, in 1974, celebrating their 50th anniversary last September. Scott was the love of Brigid’s life. Scott leaves many family members and friends who will miss his strength, his dedication, and his calm personality.
Scott suffered an unexpected complication during routine surgery and despite many attempts to reverse the extensive damage he passed away on August 21, 2025. As a believing Christian, Scott has just “changed addresses” and gone Home to Jesus.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 10am at Mt. Airy Baptist Church, 1402 N. Main St., Mt. Airy, MD 21771. A Celebration of Life will follow with light refreshments in the adjacent Fellowship Hall.
