Ruth Ellen Shipe

Ruth Ellen Shipe (100) of Gaithersburg, MD went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, August 12, 2023. Born on August 8, 1923 in Paytes, VA, Ruth was the daughter of the late James Turner and Lillie Mae Baxter. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Raymond D. Shipe, and a son, James Russell Shipe, who died as an infant. Ruth is survived by two sons: Raymond; and Robert and wife, Betty.  She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.  She was also preceded in death by 2 daughters-in-law, Mildred and Joan, and a granddaughter, Tammy Gallagher.

Ruth was a stay-at-home mom, but she also spent many years as the full-time caregiver for other family members. She was passionate about helping people in need, and she routinely bought groceries that she donated to Gaithersburg Food Bank.

A funeral service for Ruth will be held at Barber Funeral Home in Laytonsville, MD on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 11:00 am. A visitation period will be held from 10am to 11am.  Ruth will be buried at Craig’s Baptist Church in Spotsylvania, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth’s honor can be made to Gaithersburg Food Bank.
