Robert “Bob” Rahn, 92, of Olney, MD passed away on Tuesday, December 28th, 2021 at Suburban Hospital, Bethesda. He was the beloved husband of Florence for 65 years. He is also survived by his much loved daughter, Karen Horne and husband, Drew, Grandchildren, Melissa Horne, Andrew Horne and wife Ashley, great grandchildren, Drew and Blake Horne. Additional survivors include his attentive nieces and nephews and their loving families.
Bob was born February 5, 1929 in Cumberland, MD and raised by his Grandmother Julia Bennett. He was predeceased by his sister, Ruth Rahn Spearman, whom he adored. He was also predeceased by his sister-in-law, Betty Thomas and husband Robert, with whom he was very close. He enlisted in the army and served his country honorably from 1948-1952. He attended Frostburg State Teachers College, graduating in 1956 where he met the love of his life and future wife, Florence “Floss.”
Bob was a devoted educator of mathematics in Montgomery County public schools for 30 years. Retiring in 1988 with his wife, he enjoyed years of travels with a circle of friends and family. He especially loved the many years they spent winters in Marco Island, Florida.
A man of strong faith, he loved volunteering often with his New Hope Presbyterian Church family. His fondest memories were those spent with his wife attending many special family events including nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.
A service to celebrate the life of Robert “Bob” Rahn will be held on January 7, 2022 at the New Hope Presbyterian Church located at 17930 Bowie Mill Road in Derwood, MD 20816. A visitation for family and friends will begin at 10:15 am and the service will begin promptly at 11:00am. Burial will take place on January 8, 2022 at the Frostburg Memorial Park with only family in attendance. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his name to New Hope Presbyterian Church.
