Richard Hugh Holton, 77, of Gaithersburg, MD passed away at Holy Cross Hospital in Germantown, MD on December 3, 2024, surrounded by his family. Richard worked as an auto mechanic, but his true passion was music. He was lead guitarist for The Nomads during his teen years, and for The Grand Wazoo as an adult. In addition to playing in bands, he wrote and recorded his own music. He was a very talented musician who could play numerous instruments by ear. He met his late wife, Anna Riggs Holton, when they were teenagers at a band job at the Washingtonian Hotel. Richard was born in Reno, NV to Joyce Bedsaul Ames of Alexandria, VA and the late Hubert Guion Holton. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Riggs Holton. He is survived by his daughter, Theresa Ann Holton of Damascus, MD; two grandchildren, Kayleigh Anna Bohs and Colin Michael Bohs also of Damascus; four siblings, Brenda Counts of Los Angeles, CA, Russell Holton of Rockville, MD, Joseph Dean Salama of Purcellville, VA, and Sandra Drury of Alexandria, VA. The family will receive friends at Barber Funeral Home in Laytonsville, MD on Saturday, December 14th at 10:00 am followed with interment at the Laytonsville St. Paul UMC Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to NAMI of Montgomery County, MD.
