Reba Griffin Obituary

Reba Joan (Tlumack) Griffin, 92, of Lake Court, Rockville passed away on Tuesday, December 14 at Montgomery General Hospital. Affectionately known as ‘Gagi’ to friends and family alike, she was born on September 14, 1929 in Mt Pleasant, PA to the late Andrew Tlumack and Leona May Thomas Tlumack.

Gagi was employed later in life at Leisure World Retirement Community in Silver Spring as an administrative assistant, working through her golden years building friendship and community with the residents before her second retirement. Prior to her first retirement she managed a series of small businesses with her late husband, Terry Arthur Griffin, and sons. She served as a notary public and held positions in various community organizations.

Although she lived a full professional life, Gagi was first and foremost a dedicated and devoted family woman. Married for over 50 years, her love story was simple and beautiful. A youthful decision led to a lifetime of love and although Pop passed nearly 24 years prior, their love endured. Gagi and Pop raised three sons, and she was active in all aspects of her children’s (and eventually grandchildren’s) lives; acting as a scout leader, PTA mother, and cheering at all sporting events, plays, and concerts (even the boring ones). Throughout her life she was always the consummate host; everyone came to the Griffins for dinner, drinks, parties, holidays and just for no good reason at all. A terrifically talented cook, holiday dinners became highlights on the annual calendar for friends and family far and near. Gagi and Pop also ran what can best be called a boarding house for friends and family.  Sons, their friends, grandchildren, strangers; all were welcome and that welcome never wore out. Some stays exceeded well past a decade.

Gagi was preceded in death by her loving husband Terry (1997) and her eldest son Terry Arthur Griffin, Jr (2021). She is survived by two sons, Larry Edward Griffin and his wife Linda of Gettysburg, PA and Barry Allen Griffin and his wife Diane of Olney, daughter-in-law L. Karen Griffin of Cumberland, five grandchildren: Barry Kevin Griffin, Jeremy Shannon, Cari Pothier, Drew Griffin and Larry Donald Griffin, as well as 9 great-grandchildren: Faith, Hope, Henry, Sadie, Tiahna, Grace, Cody, Aravay and Lennox.

The family will not be holding services at present and instead will be holding a ‘Celebration of Life’ event to be announced in summer of 2022 per Gagi’s wishes. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Diabetes Association in her honor.
