Peter zur Nedden of Rockville, Maryland, died peacefully at home in his sleep on June 14, 2023.
Peter was born on November 9, 1940, in Puerto Rico. At 6 months old, his parents relocated to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Peter had a worldly life, traveling and spending time in many countries to include boarding school in England and living with family members in France. He came to the U.S. when he was 20 years old to attend the University of Maryland, where he met his wife and the mother of his two daughters Cynthia and Tanya. Peter made Maryland his permanent residence and has remained in the D.C. Metro area ever since.
Peter was a father, brother, uncle, grandfather, insurance broker, financial planner, and a real estate investor.
Peter had a quest for knowledge and was always willing to share his knowledge with others. Finance, real estate, antique furniture, food, cars, and politics were topics that he could talk about for hours. He had a gift for gab. He was always learning and sharing information. If you needed an answer to a question, he would typically always have the answer. He will be sorely missed.
Peter is survived by a younger brother and sister, Michael zur Nedden and Mary Katherine (Kits) Mellinger; his ex-wife, Dorothy zur Nedden; daughters: Cynthia (husband John) Kozorosky, Tanya (husband Rick) Cottle; and grand-children: Paulina Kozorosky, Sophia Kozorosky, C.J. Kozorosky, Jack Cottle, and Will Cottle.
A funeral mass will be held for Peter at 10:30 am on Friday, July 28, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church located at 9000 Warfield Rd., Gaithersburg, MD 20882. A memorial luncheon will follow the mass at Montgomery Country Club located at 20908 Golf View Dr., Laytonsville, MD 20882.
