Patrick Bailey Griffin, born on May 3, 1996, in Rockville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025, at the age of 29, surrounded by his loving family.
Patrick grew up in Olney, Maryland, where he enjoyed a happy and adventurous childhood and was part of the St. Peter’s Church community. He graduated from Blake High School in Silver Spring and went on to study computer science at UMBC and the University of Maryland Global Campus. A dedicated and hard-working young man, Patrick brought his strong work ethic and positive spirit to every job he held, including at Fletcher’s Service Center, Alco Products Inc., and Kendall’s Hardware.
Patrick had an insatiable curiosity and a deep love of learning, always eager to explore new topics and ideas. He was passionate about the outdoors and derived great joy and unforgettable memories on camping trips, around bonfires, and family vacations to Ocean City, Bethany Beach, and Deep Creek Lake. Patrick cherished spontaneous adventures with close friends.
Patrick had a remarkable connection and tender heart with animals, especially for his beloved dogs Roxy, Wilbur, Posey, and most recently, his cherished French bulldog puppy, Joy.
Patrick had many deep interests, including a special love for cars and racing, and he found a steadfast community as part of the UMBC Gearheads. As a young man, he earned his black belt in karate. He was also inspired by music —especially the work of Mac Miller and Johnny Cash —and he enjoyed the many concerts he attended. He was a big fan of the Baltimore Orioles, Washington Capitals, and the Washington Commanders and enjoyed watching games with his family.
He was affectionately known as “Big Country”—a nickname that captured his towering presence, yet also his quiet, kindhearted nature.
Patrick bravely faced a diagnosis of stage 4 colon cancer with unwavering courage, grace, and hope. For over two years, he inspired everyone around him with his strength and his ability to stay positive.
Patrick is survived by his loving parents, Joseph Griffin and Shirley Griffin Aceituno; his siblings, Michael Griffin and Grace Griffin; his stepfather, Al Aceituno; and stepsisters Allison and Rachel Aceituno. He is also survived by his grandmothers, Margaret Griffin and Roberta Sybrant, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends who loved him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, George Griffin and Rawligh Sybrant, and his cousin, Emma Rader.
Patrick will be remembered always for his kind soul, gentle strength, and the love and light he brought into the world. His memory lives on in all who knew and loved him.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Olney, MD. Visitation at the church will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place immediately after the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Rockville, MD.
