Patricia Ann Colacicco was born June 2, 1942, in Washington, DC, to Frank and Anna Colacicco. During her childhood, she and her siblings lived around the United States (Georgia, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland) and abroad (England) where her father’s jobs sent them, always returning to Maryland (and Montgomery County). These experiences led her to her love of travel. Several of her Walter Johnson High School classmates were also in her homeroom at London Central High School (England). Patricia was a friendly face and looked for ways to include people in her community; she never met a stranger.
Patricia was a freshman at the University of Maryland, College Park, when she learned the family was headed to Panama. She took the initiative to learn about taking a sabbatical from her studies at the University of Maryland to join the family, attend the Canal Zone Junior College, and travel around Central and South America. She earned her Associate’s degree from the Canal Zone Junior College (1962) before returning to the University of Maryland and earning her BS, Early Childhood Education (1964). She returned to earn her Master’s in Early Childhood Education in 1971.
Patricia taught in Prince George’s County Public Schools until 1969 when she had to resign for the birth of her daughter, Kathryn. Patricia returned to teaching in Montgomery County Public Schools in 1985, where she remained until her retirement in 2004.
The family moved from Bowie, Maryland, to Olney in 1970. Patricia and Kathy joined the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd (LCGS), attending services in the various locations until the current church building was constructed.
In addition to travel, Patricia loved reading and gardening. She volunteered for Camp Fire Girls (as Kathy’s troop leader), the Olney Mill Garden Club, and at her grandchildren’s elementary school during retirement. She was involved in many activities at LCGS: choir, Sunday School (as a teacher and the Superintendent), and Vacation Bible School.
Patricia joined her parents and grandparents on March 27, 2025, passing peacefully in her sleep. She is survived by Kathy and her family (Richard, Hannah, and Elena), her siblings and their spouses (Michael and Gayle, John and Grace, Daniel and Barbara, David and Sally, Vicki-Marie) and her goddaughter Michelle, her namesake Patricia Marie, and her other nieces and nephews and their families.
A funeral service will be on Friday, April 4, 2025 at 10am at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 4200 Olney-Laytonsville Rd., Olney, MD 20832.
