Patricia Ann Athey (Pat), 83, of Burtonsville, MD passed away peacefully on Friday, February 27, 2026, surrounded by her loving children. A devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, great-grandmother and homemaker, Patricia dedicated her life to caring for family and enjoying the best that life has to offer.
Born on July 30, 1942 in Washington DC to Robert and Ruby Spicer, Patricia grew up in Glenmont Maryland with a deep love for family, traveling and enjoying life. She graduated from Wheaton High School in 1960 where she met and later married her high school sweetheart, Gerald Athey Sr. They would go on to build a wonderful life together in his hometown of Burtonsville, Maryland.
Patricia was known for her warmth, her love of her children and being on the go. She found joy in going to the beach, traveling, trying new restaurants and frequenting her favorite ones. She loved family get-togethers and considered many in her daily sphere of life to be part of her family, as well.
She is survived by her children Gerald (Amy) Athey Jr, Bryan (Ynez) Athey, Denise Athey; her sisters Joyce Cornett and Norma (Tony) Perfetto and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews as well as four great-grandchildren and their beloved parents.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her brother Robert Spicer Jr.
A celebration of life will occur at a later date to be announced.
