Naomi Forester Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Naomi Marie Forester announce her passing on February 16, 2022. Daughter of the late Floyd Benson Forester, Jr. and Georgia Christine Mellon Forester and beloved sister of Carolyn Jane Forester Feck and Sandra Mellon Forester. Lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews Stephanie vonFeck, Benjamin Feck, Elizabeth Forester, Kristina DeMino, and Richard Ellison and her great nieces and nephews and extended family in Alabama, Texas, and Montana.

Naomi was born in Talladega, Alabama on August 28, 1942. She was the daughter of a World War II veteran and devoted, lifelong homemaker and lived in Alabama, the Philippines, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Montana, Washington State, and Maryland before starting her professional career.

She began her career in the early years of the National Center for Health Statistics, when charts and graphs were made by hand on drafting boards and then transitioned to automated systems. Under her direction, the NCHS Graphics section grew into an advanced, sophisticated unit. She was highly respected by her coworkers and others who knew her. She retired in 1995 to pursue her extensive personal interests.

She travelled with family and friends to Guatemala, Greece, Peru, Germany, England, Ireland, Iceland, and Alaska. She was a fossil hunter, who taught her nieces and nephews to find shark teeth. Throughout life she remained closely connected to her extended family in Alabama, spending summer vacations with them every year.

During retirement, Naomi pursued her passion as a writer, authoring two books of short stories loosely based on family lore. She was an avid reader, artist, music lover, and enjoyed dining out with friends. After her mother's stroke, Naomi and her sisters were dedicated caregivers for 10 years, ensuring their mother's sunset years were happily spent at home surrounded by her family.

Details about a celebration of life will be added to the obituary when determined.
