Nancy Sue (Eye) Hammer, 77, of Damascus, Maryland passed away at her home on Friday, June 18, 2021, with her daughter and friend by her side. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Gary (Pete) Hammer, her parents (Harry Strite Eye and Georgia Ellen [Johnston] Eye), and her two brothers (Richard Eye and Jimmie Eye). Nancy is survived by three children, Douglas James Myers, Jon Eric Myers, and Candace Lea Myers, as well as five grandchildren.
Nancy was born on September 3, 1943, in Brandywine, West Virginia, where she grew up, until she moved to the DC area at the age of sixteen. Nancy raised three kids in her home off of Clarksburg Road in Boyds, Maryland, and was active in church. In 2009, Nancy moved to the other side of Clarksburg Road in Damascus, Maryland, with her daughter.
Nancy retired from the Federal Government after working at the Department of Energy and Department of Commerce for most of her life in accounting. Nancy enjoyed spending time with and training her dogs, singing, listening to gospel music, cooking, sewing, playing cards, and playing the slot machines. Nancy loved animals, and helped with local feral cats, rabbits, and deer. Most of all, Nancy cherished her time with family, both near and far. Nancy was a generous and caring person, and will be missed by many.
On Friday, June 25, 2021, family viewing will start at 11:00am at the Germantown Baptist Church (17640 Riffle Ford Rd, Germantown, MD 20874).
On Friday, June 25, 2021, funeral services for family and friends will start at 11:30am, with a brief graveside committal outside the church immediately following the service at the Germantown Baptist Church in Germantown, MD.
After the service, a local Germantown venue will hold a reception for family and friends to visit and celebrate the good times with Nancy.
Nancy loved animals and supported several rescues and nonprofit organizations.
