Nadine Ruby Snyder Bready
November 27, 1933 – July 11, 2023
Nadine is the second of five children born to Neal D. and Ruby (Holderness) Snyder. In the early years, she and her older sister shared a bedroom that used to be a bank vault. Their apartment was in Takoma Park (Washington, DC) where they started school and began piano lessons. The family moved to Notley Road in Colesville, Maryland and Nadine began school at Sherwood School where she met and went “steady” with her future husband, Frank Bready.
Nadine was a good student, an excellent typist, and a disciplined musician. As a Christian, she viewed music as a ministry and over the years, played piano and organ, sang in the choir and was asked to sing solos for weddings, funerals and other special occasions. For many years, she gave piano lessons to children and adults after school hours. She volunteered with several organizations: most notably the Good News Mission.
She married Frank on January 28, 1954. When her son Michael was born in December of that year, she started her career (another ministry) as wife and mother. Three years later, daughter Charlene was born, and her family was complete. In addition to housekeeping, parenting and piano teaching, Nadine was active in church. When her husband continued his education, Nadine used her typing skills to prepare her husband’s college papers. She cared for the always large vegetable garden and all that came with that.
An additional ministry for Nadine over the years was as an encourager. She regularly sent cards and letters to family and friends. She wrote a monthly letter to her extended family and, for many years sent a letter to her daughter every week. To support her faith, Nadine regularly studied the Bible both individually and in groups. She greatly enjoyed reading, playing and listening to music and attending concerts when able. She prayed regularly for family and friends and the world.
In addition to her children, her remaining family includes her four grandchildren: Shawn (and Trevor), Molly (and Scott), Michael (and Camila) and Caitlin (and Alan). She has nine great-grandchildren (Bready, Garrett, MacKenzie, Jack, Dolan, Cooper, Griffin, Emma and Isabella). Her “bonus” grand and great grandchildren includes Rita, Sky, Emily and Baylee. She maintained many strong friendships over the years through regular contact in person and by letter. She has been an inspiration, support and model for her family and friends.
Service will be at Oakdale Methodist Church in Olney, Maryland on Monday July 17, 2023. Visitation at 10 am followed by the service at 11am. Burial will be at Norbeck Cemetery at Noon.
