Mildred “Mimi” Landes McNeel, 77, of Derwood, MD, passed away on October 26, 2021. Daughter of the late Earl Landes and Maurine (McNail) Landes of Crystal City, MO, Mimi is survived by her husband Victor McNeel of Derwood, MD, son Timothy McNeel (Jennifer) of Columbia, MD, grandsons Justin and Samuel McNeel, and sister Kathryn Landes Workman of St. Louis, MO.
Mimi grew up in Crystal City, MO, and graduated from Central Methodist College (now university) in Fayette, MO, (with summers at Drake University in Iowa and Washington University in St. Louis). She moved to Maryland after marrying Vic. Mimi worked for many years at NIH as a computer specialist. She played flute in the Rockville Concert Band and Flutes on the Brink. She was awarded the Maryland State Volunteer award in 2020 for her service to the Rockville Concert Band. Mimi also played harp and was in several harp ensembles. She had many friends in the music community as well as her church, The Lutheran Church of St. Andrew. Mimi is remembered for her musical ability, her beautiful smile, and her care for others.
A memorial service will be held at The Lutheran Church of St. Andrew (15300 New Hampshire Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20905) Friday, November 12, at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Rockville Concert Band (http://rockvilleconcertband.org/paypal) or a charity of the donor’s choice.
