Meredith Irvin "Brother" Pattie, Jr. passed away peacefully in the presence of family at Montgomery General Hospital on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. He was a plumbing and heating contractor in Montgomery County and was very active in civic affairs. He lived his 87 years happily in the same home in Sandy Spring, Maryland. Brother was a loving son, brother, godfather, and cousin. Family was very important to him.
Brother was born at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney, MD on January 9, 1938. He was the son of Thelma Oursler and Meredith I. Pattie, Sr. Brother graduated from St. Louis Parochial School in Clarksville, MD in 1952. After graduating in 1956 from St. John's College High School, in Washington, DC, Brother served in the United States Army. After his service, he began to learn his trade by working with his father in the business established by his grandfather. Brother took over M.I. Pattie & Son after the death of his father in 1980.
Brother was well known and highly respected by members of his community. Along with running a successful business, Brother also made time to serve the community that he loved so much. He was a faithful parishioner at St. Peter's Catholic Church and served on many committees over the years. He was a lifetime member of the Sandy Spring Lions Club. He was elected to many offices and spent immeasurable hours serving others in his capacity as a Lion! He also served on the boards of Sandy Spring Musuem and the Union Cemetery in Burtonsville. His presence and positive influence will surely be missed.
In his younger years, Brother enjoyed bowling, hunting, and spending time at a family cabin in Virginia with family and friends. In his later years, he enjoyed traveling with his good friends.
He is predeceased by his his only sister, Shirley and his brother-in-law, John Francis Springer of Highland, Maryland. He is survived by his two cousins, Francis "Roy" Oursler (Patricia) of Mt. Airy, MD, and Duane Gill (Catherine) of Houston, TX and several second cousins in the area.
Relatives and friends may visit on Thursday, March 13, 2025 from 10am to 11am at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 2900 Olney-Sandy Spring Rd., Olney, MD 20832, where a funeral mass will be held at 11am. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery in Burtonsville, MD.
