Megan Makara Deutsch of Brookeville, Maryland peacefully passed into the arms of our Lord and Savior Saturday, September 2, 2023.
Born June 25, 1983, Megan never met a stranger and was always eager and happy to engage everyone with a loving smile, a kind heart, and an open soul. Her inquisitiveness and thirst for knowledge led her to earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from University of Maryland, College Park, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice, University of Maryland, College Park. Her desire to better understand health and nutrition propelled her to a Certificate in Health Counseling from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in 2008, eventually enrolling into the Masters of Nutrition and Integrative Health from the Maryland University of Integrative Health
A life-long resident of the Olney-Brookeville community Megan worked and touched the lives of many local culinary organizations and was instrumental in a great many of their successes. Her humanitarian nature eventually led to employment with the Threshold Services, Inc. where she worked as the Director of Development and Community Relations and traveled throughout the community to encourage support and awareness for mental health issues.
Megan was extraordinarily proud of her Ukrainian heritage constantly engaging in the history, traditions, culture, recipes, and lore with her entire Ukrainian family. The Ukrainian National Flower, the Soniashnyk, (the Sunflower ), was also her favorite flower! She additionally shared a deep and special bond with the Jewish community and culture, stemming from her Father’s side, and enjoyed learning and celebrating the holidays from both cultures. In addition to her culinary and humanity interests Megan enjoyed home design, the arts, literature, (especially Alice in Wonderland!) and all things animals!
Megan, the daughter of Kerry & Joanna Deutsch, is survived by her loving mother Joanna Makara Deutsch, her devoted brother Justin Makara Deutsch, her sister-in-law Sreypov Hok, her adorable “sister-niece” Alexandra Makara Deutsch, her Uncle Michel Makara, her Aunts’ Fran Deutsch and Carol Leland, and her Great-Aunt Mary Jane Asher, as well as countless more extended family and friends.
