Matt Lozupone, fifty-two years of age, died on April 19 2026 after a short bout with pneumonia. He is survived by his parents, Pete and Dee, his brother, Daryl (partner Lori), and his beloved canine, Lucy.
In his childhood, Matthew loved to be outdoors, often leaving the house at sunrise only to return when called for dinner. He played organized sports including soccer, baseball, basketball, flag football, and competitive gymnastics. As an adult, the love of the outdoors manifested itself in fishing, bow and rifle hunting, and golf. He also participated in competitive darts and billiards, once traveling to Las Vegas to compete in the American Poolplayer’s Association tournaments.
Matt went to Colonel Zadok Magruder High School in Rockville, MD. Starting his junior year, Matt attended the Edison Career Center, the MCPS vocational school. He studied printing and began a career as a press operator. With the demise of printing brought on by consumer printing, Matt worked as a Veterinary Technician for a short while. He then decided to learn the locksmith trade and worked in the private industry. Matt had the opportunity to join the Montgomery County government as a locksmith and remained employed there up to his death.
Matthew found great comfort and companionship with canines: Hank the Dog (a Visla), Annie Bannannies (a pointer), and Lucy Goose (a mixed breed rescue). He spent many hours in his recliner cuddling with his dogs and watching Barclay’s Premier League football or the Washington Capitals. He also enjoyed playing country and bluegrass music for the dogs with his guitar, mandolin, and fiddle.
