Mary Smith Obituary

Mary Graham Davis Smith, 96 of Laytonsville, MD passed away on March 6, 2021. Daughter of William J and May J Davis.  Predeceased by her husband Edward Dean Smith and her son, Marshall Dean Smith.  Survived by her beloved daughter Meredith J Smith.  Also survived by grandchildren, Shaun E. Smith, and Andrea and Dimitar Nikolov and great-grandsons, Theodore Reijo Nikolov and Philip Matteo Nikolov.  Survived by her beloved Ground family especially Allie, Garry, Eddie, Mikey, and Tommy. Also survived by a brother William J Davis.

Mary graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Penn State and a master’s degree in Library Science from the University of Maryland. She worked for the Montgomery County Public Library system as a Children’s Librarian at Wheaton, Gaithersburg, and Poolesville from 1967 to 1990 and then volunteered at the Olney library. She was a 4-H Volunteer for 50+ years working on the county and state levels, a Maryland 4-H All Star for 45+ years, a member of the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair, an avid square dancer, a 60+ year member of St Bartholomew”s Episcopal Church and Ladies Guild, a member of the Laytonsville Garden and Homemakers clubs. She supported her husband’s 50+ years work with the Laytonsville Lions Club. As a Life Member of the Auxiliary of the Laytonsville District Volunteer Fire Department she supported and ran many bake sales. 

Graveside services for family only. A Celebration of Life will be held in the future.  No flowers, please. Donations may be made to the Laytonsville Lions Club Foundation, PO Box 5111, Laytonsville, Md 20882.
