It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Ann Ghion announce her passing on January 27, 2022. Daughter of the late Frank and Sarah Galate Gaspar. Wife of the late Remo (Ray) Ghion. Niece of the late William and Vesta Galate. Lovingly remembered by her son Christopher (Teresa), Keith (Natalia), grandchildren Dylan, Sean, Patrick, Nathaniel, and Emma Ghion, cousins Barbara and William Galate, and numerous in-laws, nephews, and nieces from Ray’s family.
Mary Ann was born in Clairton, PA on November 15, 1941. She was an only child. She met the love of her life Ray, and they were married on July 7, 1962. They enjoyed 36 years together until his passing on February 3, 1999. Mary Ann worked as a secretary for a primary care medical practice, supporting her and Ray until he completed graduate school. She transitioned to a homemaker during her children’s early years. She volunteered at her children’s elementary school, Bel Pre, then became a para educator at the same school for 13 years, retiring in March 1999.
Mary Ann most enjoyed spending time with her husband and their social circle. As a homemaker she provided everything her children could want. Mary Ann was an excellent cook, hosting many family holiday gatherings. She also enjoyed travelling and hobbies such as sewing and crafting.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at 10:00am at St. Peters Church, 2900 Olney Sandy Spring Rd, Olney, MD with mass immediately following at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in the name of Mary Ann Ghion to the National Institute of Mental Health. Donations will support research on mental health disorders. Donations are made via check or money order payable to “The National Institute of Mental Health” addressed to: National Institute of Mental Health, Gift Fund, 6001 Executive Boulevard, Room 6229A, MSC 9655, Bethesda, MD 20892-9655.
