Martin Eley Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Martin Eley on February 15th at the age of 82. He peacefully departed surrounded by his family.

Born in Washington, D.C. to Milford and Leila Eley, Marty lived his entire life in the DC area.  He grew up in Anacostia and graduated from Anacostia High School.  Soon after graduation he joined the United States Air Force and served as a Staff Sergeant before being honorably discharged in 1969.  Upon returning he married the love of his life, Donna Pisapia and they went on to have three daughters.

Marty spent his entire career with Verizon (formerly C&P) and rose from a telephone lineman to the executive ranks of the company.  He was a dedicated employee and was often recognized for his commitment to his work.  He was active in the Olney Kiwanis Club and served in multiple leadership roles.  He was also very active in the annual Olney Toys for Tots campaigns and most recently was an ever present volunteer at the Lions Club Christmas tree sale.  He connected with his community, an almost daily presence at the Olney Bagel Shop, he touched so many lives.

He dedicated his life to his family and loved traveling, golf and kayaking.  His love for his wife Donna was always present and she was always with him even after her passing.  Marty was a devoted father and grandfather, and could always be seen in the stands at every game, school play, or activity.  He was always willing to help anyone in need and was the first person to volunteer to help or assist friends and family.
Marty was preceded in death by his wife Donna Eley (Pisapia), his Brother Kenneth Christopher and his sister Margaret Eley.  He is survived by his daughter Stacey Vacca, her husband Joe, daughter Kimberly Kauppi, her husband Dave, and daughter Amanda Eley. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Mikaela Vacca, Brady Vacca, Kennedy Vacca, Isabel Kauppi, Mason Vacca, Jackson Kauppi, and Bryce Kauppi.
