Marilyn Linhart Kinsey

Marilyn Linhart Kinsey was born on April 21, 1931 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Mabel C. and Earl G. Linhart. She was the beloved mother of a daughter and a son, grandmother of four children and great-grandmother of one. She passed away on May 27, 2026 at Asbury Methodist Village.

Her wonderful childhood included travel all over the United States when her father worked for the Federal Housing Administration. Her family moved to Utah when she was 11 and stayed there for four years during World War II when her father served as an officer in the US Army at the Tooele Ordnance Depot. She loved riding her horse, Jerry, and skiing in the mountains at Alta.

She graduated from Guildford College in North Carolina and maintained many of the friendships she made there throughout her life. She earned her MEd. From Western Maryland College (McDaniel College) when she returned to work.

Marilyn taught in the Montgomery County school system for twenty-three and a half years. She taught English and Reading at Baker Middle School, Poolesville Jr./Sr. High School and retired as English Department chairperson at Martin Luther King, JR. Middle School.

She had a beautiful soprano voice and had the wonderful experience of singing at the National Cathedral as well as on radio in the Washington, DC area. She was a soloist in many area churches and a former choir director at Salem United Methodist Church in Brookeville, MD.

Marilyn always put her family first, loved music, gardening quilting and antiques. She was a member of the Four-County Quilting Guild, the Damascus Garden Club, the Montgomery County Public Schools Retirees Association and the Damascus United Methodist Church.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter Lisa (Tom) Mielke, grandchildren Jennifer Wood (Bryan Talenfeld) and great granddaughter Juliet Talenfeld and grandson Christopher Mielke (Brian Keezel); her son Robert (Gina) Wilson, granddaughters Adrienne Wilson (Austin Trask), and Rachel Wilson (Diego Maldonado). She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin R. Kinsey, her first husband and father of her children Robert J Wilson and her sister, Elizabeth Snyder.

A Celebration of Life at Damascus United Methodist Church is planned for August 1, 2026 at 11:00 am.
