Marie Roldan Obituary

Marie Louise “Lulu” Roldan (née Agostini) whose heart touched countless lives in Olney, Maryland, passed away peacefully on May 4th at the age of 87. Surrounded by her loving family, Lulu leaves behind a legacy of love, unwavering faith, and a profound devotion to prayer and the Virgin Mary.

Preceded in death by her loving husband Hernando Roldan, she is survived by her beloved children and their spouses: Joe, Carlos (Sylvia), Richard (Stephanie), Michael (Mayra), Doug (Wendy), Cynthia (Lance Bendit), and Stephen. Her family, a testament to her nurturing spirit, also includes her 19 grandchildren: Carmel, Talia, Roy, Mia, Charles, Julia, Alex, Chris, Nathan, Emma, Parker, Gabriela, Megan, Tommy, Nick, Lucas, Caitlin, Carleigh, and Caroline; and six great-grandchildren: Emelia, Evelyn, Ella, Harper, Charlotte, and Frances. Also preceded in death are her loving parents Elvira and Jose Agostini, her siblings Royden Agostini and Nila Agostini. She is survived by her sister Carmela Shepherd and many nieces and nephews.

Lulu’s life was an inspiring tapestry woven with vibrant threads of faith and dedicated service. Her deep Catholic faith was the bedrock of her existence, and her unwavering devotion to the Virgin Mary was a central guiding force in her spirituality. This devotion manifested in her service to her church community at St. Peter’s in Olney as a Eucharistic minister, Arimathean, and former Director of Religious Education, where she shared her love of Christ, inspired by Mary's example, with countless children of the Olney Community. Among her most cherished memories were her deeply meaningful trips to the Vatican and the Holy Land. Her journey alongside her husband’s career took her across the globe, enriching her life and the lives of those she encountered, yet her faith remained her constant companion. The family is grateful that in her final days, Lulu received compassionate and dedicated care at Brooke Grove Rehabilitation Center in Sandy Spring, Maryland.

She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved a good joke, finding joy in laughter. Above all, she cherished family gatherings and delighted in hearing about the lives and experiences of each of her loved ones.

Known for her boundless generosity and deep commitment to the welfare of children, Lulu was a source of guidance and love for many. Her life was deeply rooted in prayer, and she was an active and dedicated member of her church’s prayer group, consistently lifting the health and well-being of others in her heartfelt petitions. This commitment to prayer was a powerful expression of her caring nature and her strong connection to her faith. While she had a successful career at the National Bank of Washington, her true passion lay in her faith-based work at St. Peter’s in Olney.

While her passing due to heart complications leaves a void, the profound impact of Lulu’s love, her steadfast faith, and her devotion to prayer and the Virgin Mary will continue to resonate deeply within her family and friends.

Friends and family may attend a viewing from 11am to 12noon on May 10th at St. Peter’s Church, 2900 Olney Sandy Spring Rd, Olney, MD 20832. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on May 10th at 12 noon at St. Peter’s Church, with interment to follow at Norbeck Memorial Cemetery, 16225 Batchellors Forest Rd, Olney, MD 20832. The location of a gathering for a celebration of Lulu's life will be announced at the service.
