Maria O. Poma, 89, born on May 8th, 1935, to Floriberta and Ignacio Poma in Pirca, Peru passed away in Rockville, Maryland on February 6th, 2025.
She leaves behind her daughter, Margarita Streicher, son-in-law, Kevin Streicher, her grandson Matthew Streicher (Elizabeth), her great-granddaughter Nina Streicher Lowe, and many other loved ones. Maria’s passing also brings her extraordinary life to a close. Born to a family of humble means, Maria began working at a young age which brought her to the Mena family in Lima, Peru. While under their employment Margarita was born and she soon became everyone’s “little one”, solidifying a bond between the two families that would take them to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and then later to Bethesda, Maryland where Maria and Margarita would end up residing.
Maria loved to laugh (especially at videos of Nina), she loved to have fun, she loved her family more than anything; and she loved doing things her way. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her and laughing with her.
Relatives and friends may visit on Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 10am to 11am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 9000 Warfield Rd., Gaithersburg, MD 20882, where a funeral mass be held at 11am. Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery, 11401 Brink Rd., Germantown, MD 20876. There will be a repast at the church following the burial.
