It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Maria Ester Davila passed away peacefully at her home on March 1st, 2026. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Carlos A. Davila. Together they built a beautiful family and a lasting legacy of love with four children Carlos, Edwin (Elaine), Maria (Jim), and Albert (Lisa), 8 grandchildren, Lisa Marie (Patrick), Tyler (Lidia), Ashley (Matt), Jimmy (Molly), Christopher (Alexis), Lauren, Lexy (Scott), and Chrissy and 12 great grandchildren, Jackson, Everleigh, Landon, Brooks, Brayden, Charlotte, Ella, Bella, Memphis, Abby, Delaney, and Bryan.
Maria was born in Cajamarca, Peru on August 15th, 1938. She was the second to youngest of 8 children, 5 sisters and 3 brothers. She loved to share many fond memories of her childhood and memories of her siblings.
Maria married the love of her life on December 4th, 1960, in Lima, Peru. She immediately stepped into her role as a dedicated wife and caretaker of her home. Shortly after marriage, they moved to the United States when her husband was transferred to work with the Organization of American States. Together they built a beautiful life in this country. They spent their later years in Ocean City, Maryland in the home of their dreams. Their beach home brought the family together to create many memories that will live in her family’s hearts forever. She had such a love for the beach, and especially enjoyed lighthouses. She often walked or rode her adult tricycle by the lighthouse near her home. She loved Christmas and she started a tradition with buying all the grandchildren matching pajamas. Her greatest joy was to watch them all come down the stairs in their matching jammies. This is something the kids looked forward to every year.
She was known as Maria to most, but her children knew her as “Mami”. Her favorite name and title was “Mama”, which she was called by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Being a Mama was by far her greatest joy in life. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who found her greatest joy in spending time with her family. She was a wonderful sister-in-law and a wonderful aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She was a wonderful friend to all who knew her. She was known for her kind heart, infectious smile, and she was always the life of the party. She was a woman of strong faith and values. She was the foundation of her family, filling her home with love and laughter. Her legacy will live on in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and in the many lives she touched.
Maria (Mama) will forever be missed and always loved. We will always carry her memories in our hearts.
There will be a visitation for Maria Davila on Saturday, March 7th, 2026, at 10:30 am, followed by Mass at 11:00 am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 12329 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, MD.
