CSM (Ret.) Lewis Roberts Brown, EdD
Dr. Lewis Roberts Brown of Laytonsville, MD, a faithful servant of our almighty God, passed away on February 3, 2026, in the comforting arms of his cherished and loving life-partner Dr. Trupti Brahmbhatt after a short but difficult battle with cancer.
Lewis was born in Forest City, NC and was stationed throughout the world during his 25 years of service with the United States Army. Having retired from the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, he settled in Maryland, residing in Port Deposit, Frederick, and finally Germantown and Laytonsville where he found true happiness in the final fourteen years of his amazing life.
Lewis started service in the Army at age 19 attaining the rank of Sergeant Major (E9). After retiring from the Army after 25 years of active duty, he taught third grade School for 3 years. He then joined Battelle and subsequently the federal service retiring again after 20 years in 2025. During this period, Lewis attained a degree of Doctor of Education from Morgan State University.
Lewis loved gardening, taking immense pride in his perfectly manicured lawn, beautiful flower beds, and bountiful vegetable garden, sharing the fruits of his labor with friends, coworkers, and neighbors. Lewis was a kindhearted individual and a generous benefactor for several charities for education and veterans.
Lewis is predeceased by his parents Nellie Hamilton Brown and Lewis Daniel Brown and brothers Michael Brown and Edward Brown. Lewis is survived by his loving life-partner Trupti Brahmbhatt, children-Rehani, Aarohi, and Pratosh Brahmbhatt; daughter from a previous marriage- Tiffany Elizabeth Brown and Granddaughter-Jaida Alexandria Brown-Phillips; brothers Herman Brown (Anita), Thomas Brown (Ramona), Randy Brown (Georgia), and Steve Brown and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. Lewis leaves behind Trupti and her family, “Team Lewis”, who lovingly supported him.
Celebration of Lewis’ life will be held on 14th February 2026 to include viewing at Barber funeral home from 10:00 – 11:00 AM followed by a memorial service at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 21720 Laytonsville Rd., Laytonsville, MD 20882, at 11:30 AM.
Lewis will be greatly missed by the love of his life, Trupti and her family. Trupti requests that donations in lieu of flowers be sent to Lewis’ favorite charity Shanti Bhavan Children's Project.
