Lee Dickey Obituary

Lee Earl Dickey was born May 13, 1940 in Greencastle, Indiana and was called home by Jesus on November 22, 2024.  Lee was preceded in death by his wife, Netta Ann Hixson Dickey, and his parents, Raymond Dickey Sr. and Beulah Imogene Phelps Dickey.  Lee was also preceded by his two brothers, four sisters, and their spouses: Wilma Cox, husband Chancey, Osee Bryant, husband Freeman, Opal Cox, husband Abner, Raymond Dickey Jr., wife Nellie, Wendell Dickey, wife Doris, and Betty Underwood, husband Joseph.

Lee is survived by his three sons, daughter, and their spouses: Terry Dickey, wife Belinda, Dennis Dickey, partner Deborah, Keith Dickey, wife Claire, and Sandra Powell, husband Eddie, by his nine grandchildren: Brittney Golden, husband James, Kevin Dickey, wife Allison, Alan Dickey, wife Nicole, Katherine Williams, husband Bart, Jacob Dickey, partner Tyesha, Samuel, Sydney, and Ella Dickey, and Jennifer Neu, and by his eleven great-grandchildren: Logan, Bailey, Kaylee, Graysen, Eli, Jaiden, Ryan, Parker, Bryce, Liam, and Jordan.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Lee was the youngest son, by nine years, and was raised on the family farm before moving into Greencastle.  He played high school basketball and graduated from Greencastle High School in 1958.  Shortly after high school, Lee joined the Navy, studied electrical engineering, served on submarines, and played Navy basketball.  After 12-years in the Navy, Lee was employed as an electrical engineer by several companies and retired from Lockheed-Martin in 2014.  Between the Navy and private employment, Lee lived in many states, including Indiana, Wisconsin, South Carolina, California, Virginia, Massachusetts, Texas, and Maryland.

Lee is remembered by his family as a towering man with many interesting stories.  His grandchildren recount times playing chess, basketball, and video games with many times of one-on-one encouragement.  Even though several states apart, Lee made many trips to attend children’s and grandchildren’s graduations and weddings.

Lee will be missed by his family and friends, but he is now with Jesus in heaven, enjoying his new, strong, pain-free body.
