Kathleen Mary Chaney of Middletown, Maryland, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Montgomery Village Health Care Center. She was born on April 9, 1946, in Washington, DC, the daughter of John Matthew and Catherine Alice Payne Chaney.
Kathy grew up in Takoma Park, Maryland – the third child of four. She was preceded in death by her partner, Jim McCollough and her brother, Patrick Chaney. She is survived by her sister, Joanne Mood; brother John Chaney; sister-in-law Linda Chaney; nephews Brian Chaney, Michael Chaney, Craig Mood, Jamie Mood, and Jonathan Mood; one great nephew Cayden Mood and two great nieces, Rose Marie Mood and Keira Chaney.
After retiring from a long and storied career with the Office of Naval Intelligence, she moved from Silver Spring to Middletown, Maryland and grew to love living there. She found many ways to satisfy her creative gifts, including meeting with a group of friends to create beautiful crafts such as greeting cards. She also participated in a Game Day group that regularly met up to have lunch and play board games. Kathy also adored her Siamese cats who brought endless joy to her.
A Celebration of Life is planned and will be announced in 2025. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Kathy’s memory can be made to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.
