JOHN NEVIN RENTZ, JR.
October 9, 1950 – September 11, 2022
Died peacefully on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at home. John “Jay” was born in Bethesda, Maryland, and educated at Fishburne Military School for high school and then was graduated from the University of Maryland. For most of his career, he served as a Police Officer/Sergeant with the Metropolitan Police Department, where he worked for 26 years. He was awarded the Medal of Honor and Medal of Valor for exemplary service. Throughout his retirement, he enjoyed beach trips, family gatherings, hiking the beautiful Maryland and Virginia trails, gardening, and was a lover of nature and wildlife.
John met his wife, Gina (Gaston) Rentz, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Olney, Maryland in 1988. They married in 1989 and moved to Montgomery Village, Maryland, where they raised two daughters, Elizabeth Grace and Katharine Noelle. He is survived by his wife and daughters, grandchildren Natalie Grace Willier, Paul Andrew Willier, Jr., son-in-law Paul Andrew Willier, Sr., brother Frederick Allen Rentz, sisters-in-law Sandy Rentz and Cynthia Slaton, and brother-in-law Kenneth Slaton. He was looking forward to meeting a new grandson due in October. He was predeceased by his parents Mary Frances Rentz and John Nevin Rentz, Sr., and nephew Christopher Rentz.
A memorial service will occur at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, September 30, 2022, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 3427 Olney Laytonsville Road, Olney, Maryland 20832. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church (http://www.stjec.org), American Heart Association, Montgomery Hospice (http://www.montgomeryhospice.org), or Second Chance Wildlife Center (http://www.scwc.org), a charity of choice.
