Joanne Rankin Campbell of Olney, Maryland passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025. She was born May 10, 1942 in Washington, DC. She was preceded in death by her Father Henry Rankin, her Mother Marilyn Rankin, and son Robert W. Carroll.
She is survived by her significant other Harvey Gendleman, of Olney, Maryland, son David Carroll and wife Peggy, of Frederick, and Brent Gendleman and wife Val, of Bethesda. She is also survived by two brothers, Jim Rankin and wife Pat, of Etchison, and Jerry Rankin and wife Terry, of Lovell, Virginia. She had eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Joanne’s sweet demeanor and infectious smile are two of many gifts she bestowed on us all. She shared a love for all of her pets and treated them like they were her own children, so caring and gentle.
Her green thumb when it comes to trees, shrubs and especially flowers came so naturally. She knew exactly what they needed to flourish.
She loved her Rankin family so much. Her grandmother Elsie was her favorite. She taught her to cook, sew, and still allowed her to be a kid when she visited her in Pennsylvania.
Joanne would want us all to remember her as a good friend with a great heart, all because of us and who we were to her. We made her smile.
Services are scheduled for January 21, 2025 at Roy W. Barber Funeral Home in Laytonsville, Maryland. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am. A short service at 11:00 am followed by a procession to Gate of Heaven, in Silver Spring at 12:00 pm.
