Joan (Wood) Wilburn
December 27, 1936 – May 14, 2026

Joan M. Wilburn, 89, went home to be with the Lord, on May 14, 2026, passing peacefully surrounded by her family. A woman of steadfast faith, she lived her life with grace, humility, and a quiet trust in God that guided her through every season.  She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Ethel Roberts, sister, Sylvia (Grace) Foster, and husband, Charles (Bill) Wilburn. 

A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she built a life defined by those she loved.

While residing in Sandy Spring, Maryland, Joan raised five children, who remained the center of her world. Her family grew to include 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, and each of whom brought her immense pride and joy. 

Joan spent several decades working at the Sandy Spring Post Office, where her reliability and kindness made her a beloved presence in the community. She later became Postmaster of the Spencerville, Maryland Post Office, a role she served with dedication until her retirement in 1992. Her co-workers remembered her as a person with a warm smile and a gift for making everyone feel welcome.

She is survived by her children: Delmas “Woodie” Wood III (Linda), Linda Bray (Doug), Ronald Wood (Elaine), Debra Bowers (John), and Blake Wood (Lori). She was a caring and thoughtful grandmother to 13 grandchildren - Rebekah, Lisa, Mark, Susanna, Steven, Stephanie, Blair, Brett, Chelsea, Zeke, Lucas, Zoe, and Zayn; great-grandmother to 17 children and her beloved Yorkie, Pepper, who remained faithfully by her side, bringing her warmth and peace each day.

A celebration of her life will be held May 30th, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and rejoice in the assurance that she is now at peace in God’s presence.
