Ida Catherine Smith

Ida Catherine Smith went to be with the Lord on December 23, 2022. She was 91 years of age. Ida was born in Virginia on June 14, 1931 to the late William Ransom Halterman and his wife Gertie Catherine (Sirk) Halterman.

Ida enjoyed many things such as spending time with her family, church, traveling, yard sales, thrift shops, and lunch with friends on Thursdays at McDonalds.

She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Arthur Wayne Smith. She is survived by three children: William W. Smith (Esther) of Monrovia, MD, Ethel C. Clemons (Alvin) of Gaithersburg, MD, and Gary L. Smith (Rebecca) of Wynne, AR, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She is also survived by two sisters: Mary Clay of Kemptown, MD and Amanda Sales of Woodbine, MD, one brother: David Silvius of Ellicott City, MD. She was predeceased by her brothers: John, Joe, George, Daniel, Sam and sisters: Sarah, Margaret, and Catherine.

The family will receive friends at the Barber Funeral Home, 21525 Laytonsville Road, Laytonsville, MD on Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 6-8 PM. A funeral service and internment will take place at the Goshen Mennonite Church, 8410 Brink Road, Gaithersburg, MD on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Following the internment a meal will be served at the Tri County Baptist Church located at 7821 Damascus Road, Gaithersburg, MD.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Goshen Mennonite Church Building Fund in Ida’s Memory.
