George Paul Murphy, Sr.

George Paul Murphy Sr., 87, of Olney, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home on December 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He was born on July 22, 1938 in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late John Martin Murphy Sr. and Gertrude Marie (Yurek) Murphy.

George graduated from the University of Baltimore. After which he served in the Navy on the USS Courtney and as a manager at the C and P Telephone Company and Verizon.

George loved the Baltimore Ravens and the Orioles, and enjoyed spending his summers in Ocean City, Maryland.

George was a devoted father and granddad. He treasured time with his grandchildren, proudly supporting them in all their endeavors.

George is survived by his wife, Carole Sue, daughters, Elizabeth and Emily, and sons, George Jr. and Michael, as well as by his twelve adored grandchildren, Jessica, Jennifer, Catherine, Madeline, Sarah, Ricky, Joseph, Carter, Matthew, Michael Jr, Christopher, Margaret, and six great grandchildren, Joey, Eli, Ana, Onix, Elizabeth Anne, and Elliott. He is also survived by his brother John and sisters Catherine and Mary.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6pm on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at Roy W. Barber Funeral Home in Laytonsville, Maryland. A funeral mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12pm on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Olney, Maryland. Following the funeral mass George will be laid to rest in New Cathedral Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland.
