Emiko Eng (Nagamine) 84, of Laytonsville, MD passed away on March 22, 2023. Born on April 11, 1938, in Naha, Okinawa, Japan. Emi was preceded in death by her husband Paul T. Eng, Sr., and 3 brothers. Emi emigrated to the United States where she met Paul Sr and married. They were best known as the owner-operators of Sunshine Corner Store, Brookville, MD starting in 1980. As a young child in war-torn Japan, she lived with the daily struggles of hunger. These challenges created a generosity towards taking care of her family, friends, and especially her customers. Even if you couldn't pay, Mrs. Eng made sure you got something to eat. She loved baking her famous pound and rum cakes, often giving them as gifts to her good friends and customers. Emi will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Out of respect for the family, Mrs. Eng’s funeral service will be private and limited to family and close friends by invitation only. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
