Dorothy Louise Soper Bready was born in her grandmother’s house in Olney, MD in October 1926, to parents Percy and Alice Pearl Soper. She grew up in Olney, attended school at Sherwood, worked in her grandfather’s General store, and attended church at Oakdale Emory Methodist Church. After Dorothy graduated from Sherwood High School, she studied nursing at Lucy Webb Hayes School of Nursing, earning her degree in 1949. After graduation, she worked as a nurse at Children’s Hospital, at Sibley Memorial Hospital and at Walter Reed.
Dorothy met her husband, David Franklin Bready, at Oakdale Emory Methodist Church in 1948. They got married in November 1949 and had three children, Steven, Sandra, and Mark. Dorothy stopped working as a nurse so she could devote her time to her children.
Dorothy loved her family and felt a strong calling to help others. She devoted herself to God and remained an active member at Oakdale Emory United Methodist Church. She spent much of her time reading all kinds of books and loved doing crossword puzzles. Dorothy also loved to travel and went to many places around the world; however, Ocean City was her favorite place to go.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Beth, of Canyon Lake, Texas. She has three grandchildren/spouses: David and Christy, Cheryl and Ben, and Chris and Amanda. In addition, she has 4 lively great grandchildren: Evelyn, James, Dorothy, and Grant.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Alice and her brother Robert, her husband David, her daughter Sandra, and her son Steve.
One of her favorite bible verses, which she lived by every day was Micah 6:8
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
