Delmas P. Wood, Jr., a lifelong resident of Sandy Spring, Maryland, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, at the age of 93.
Born on October 30, 1931, to Delmas P. Wood Sr. and Elizabeth Wood, Delmas was shaped by the deep roots of his hometown, where he devoted his life to enriching the community and preserving its story. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Charles E. Wood, and his beloved wife, Jody.
Delmas is survived by his former wife, Joan Wilburn, and their children: Delmas “Woodie” Wood III (Linda), Linda Bray (Doug), Ronald Wood (Elaine), Debra Bowers (John), and Blake Wood (Lori). He was a cherished grandfather to 13 grandchildren - Rebekah, Lisa, Mark, Suzanna, Steven, Stephanie, Blair, Brett, Chelsea, Zeke, Lucas, Zoe, and Zayn; and great-grandfather to 16 children.
For more than 40 years, Delmas worked as a Nationwide Insurance agent, serving his clients with dedication and integrity. Yet his contributions extended far beyond his profession. Delmas was the founder and first president of the Sandy Spring Museum, preserving the rich heritage of a town he held so dear. His passion for history was perhaps most memorably expressed through the FDR Living Museum, which he created on his own property. Known for his compelling portrayal of FDR, Delmas often delivered the “Day of Infamy” speech at World War II remembrance events and historical gatherings.
A man of strong Christian faith, Delmas was also deeply committed to the renewal of the Peach Orchard Camp Meeting, which continues today as the Tabernacle World Prayer Center. In lieu of flowers, donations in Delmas’ memory may be made to:

Delmas will be remembered for his faith, his commitment to sharing that faith with others, and his lifelong dedication to the Sandy Spring community. Through his historical work and spiritual leadership, he brought people together – leaving behind a legacy of conviction, belonging, and love for the place he called home.
