David Royster Lozupone, went home to be with the Lord on March 27, 2026. He was 79. He battled lung cancer and congestive heart failure for the last 5 years. He passed away peacefully in the night and at home.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Patsy Lozupone. He is survived by his second wife, Debbie, his two sons, David (Tammy) and Kenneth, and his stepson Bobby (Jessica). His grandsons, Nicholas, Zachary, and Vincent. His step granddaughters Hattie, Lili'i, Annie, and Britney. His brother Pete (Dee) and nephews, Daryl and Matthew.
Dave always said he was old enough that he got a letter of invite to the military. He spent two years in the Army stationed in Germany and Redstone (Huntsville AL) working on Pershing missiles. While in Germany on leave, he was able to travel and see parts of Europe.
Dave worked at the post office before changing careers and becoming a master auto mechanic. He liked diagnosing the problems more so than fixing them.
Dave liked to drag race at the 75-80 Dragstrip in Frederick MD. He spent a number of years drag racing and paused to raise his family. As his sons got older, he shared his love of racing with them. They built racecars together and would go drag racing along with his brother Pete. He held an NHRA record for a brief period of time.
His mother Patsy made sure Dave, at the age of 16, had a surfboard and learned how to surf. Dave shared this love of surfing with his sons. Dave always took the family to spend a number of vacations at the beach. He truly loved surfing and driving out on the beach in the Outer Banks and Frisco North Carolina.
Later in life when the Hummer H3's were made, Dave got interested in them. When he bought his H3, he was signed up into the Hummer Club. He would read about going off-roading in Moab UT and got interested in that. In 2009, he took the H3 out to Moab and started a later in life love affair with off-roading. The first year out there, he broke the differential and spent an extra 10 days in Moab waiting for the H3 to be fixed. He didn't have the parts to fix it himself. After that, he bought a trailer stating, "I will never be broke down like that again." In 2014, he rolled the H3 and then found Jeeps. He was thrilled to find a stock Jeep LJ and be able to modify it just the way he wanted it.
Dave and Debbie spent the last 15 years going to Moab for the Easter Jeep Safari, other various off-roading, and Jeep Jamboree events in various states. They loved Moab so much so that they got married in 2015 on the side of a mountain on Gemini Bridges Rd. They built a life full of travel, adventure and meeting new lifelong friends along the way.
They were married for 10 1/2 years and best friends for 42 years.
