Charles Richard Kimball, age 86 of Frederick, MD died on December 14, 2022 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Ann Kimball who died on December 24, 2013. They were married for 58 years. Born December 22, 1935 in Spencerville, MD, he was the son of the late George and Mary Knight Kimball.
Charles graduated from Sherwood High School in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army with the 800th Military Police. After working at Derrick's Esso in Ashton, MD, he became a partner, and in 1972 took over the business and became Kimball's Servicecenter, where he and his wife worked for 35 years. Before moving to Frederick in 2002, his family lived in Howard County for over 35 years.
Charles enjoyed most sports, played and managed several softball teams, and later played a lot of golf. He loved doing things with his children and grandchildren and enjoyed traveling on many trips and cruises. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Surviving are three daughters - Sue Kuncl of Ellicott City, MD; Laurie Zettle of Flat Rock, NC; Stacy Proskine of Littlestown, PA; five grandchildren - Amy and Bonnie Kuncl, Trevor and Emilee Zettle, and Lily Proskine; two step-grandchildren - Michael Proskine and Sarah Armento; six great-grandchildren - Paxton Reed, Michael, Isabella, Charlotte, Tyler Proskine and Luca, Natalia, Vincent Armento. Also survived by brothers Jerry Kimball and Daniel Kimball and long-time companion Linda Herrick. He was also preceded in death by sisters and brothers Dorothy Bryan, Beatrice Frye, Kathryn Peter, George Kimball, William Kimball, Robert Kimball, Audrey Hobbs, Nancy Tumolo, and son-in-law Joseph Proskine.
Visitation will be from 3:00pm to 6:00pm on December 20, 2022 at Roy W. Barber Funeral Home in Laytonsville, MD. Funeral services will be held on December 21, 2022 at 11:00am at Ashton United Methodist Church, Ashton, MD. Interment will be held at Union Cemetery in Spencerville, MD. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
