Charles Patrick Chaney

Charles Patrick Chaney (79) of Gaithersburg, MD passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital.  He was born August 21,1944, in Washington, DC, the son of John Matthew and Catherine Payne Chaney, and grew up in Takoma Park, MD.  Patrick joined the Army in 1965, and upon completion of service in 1968, began a 47-year career at Verizon.

Patrick was a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather and uncle.  He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Linda Chaney; his son Brian Chaney of Arlington, VA; his son Michael Chaney and wife Michelle of Vienna, VA; his granddaughter Keira Chaney; his dog Cruz; his sister Joanne Mood; his sister Kathleen Chaney; his brother John Chaney; his nephews, nieces, extended family and many friends.

Patrick loved music, dogs, technology, cars, YouTube videos, sci-fi/action movies (both good and bad), any opportunity to tell a “dad joke” and listening to and more importantly telling a good story. His unexpected passing comes as a shock to family and friends who will greatly miss the joyful, humorous and wonderful person he was.  

A Celebration of Life is planned and will be announced. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Patrick’s memory can be made to a local animal shelter.
