April 4, 1939- December 5, 2022

 

Carole Browning Derrick was born on April 4, 1939 at Sibley Hospital in Washington, DC.   She was the daughter of Albert W. and Margaret A. Browning and grew up in Colesville, MD with her sister, Adell Browning Milne.  She attended Sherwood High School and graduated in 1957.  She met her husband, Warren L. Derrick, at Ashton United Methodist Church as both were in the choir and they married on September 6, 1957.  Carole and Warren resided in Ashton, MD and had three daughters:  Karen Derrick Weidema (Lynn) of Pocomoke, MD; Christine Derrick McIntyre (Paul) of Merritt Island, FL; and Cheryl Derrick Horner (Tim) of Union Bridge, MD.  She has 8 grandchildren, Laura Weidema of Virgina Beach, VA, Christopher McIntyre (Heather) of St. Johns, FL, Bradley Weidema (Melissa) of Millersville, MD, Melissa McIntyre Proia (Theo) of Woodbine, MD, Kelly McIntyre Hatfield (Joshua) of Colorado Springs, CO, Lindsay McIntyre Lethbridge (Logan) of St Augustine, FL, Emily Horner Branter (Owen) of Chattanooga, TN and Erin Horner of Chattanooga, TN.  She has 11 ½ great-grandchildren, Hailey McIntyre, Jackie McIntyre, Brooke Proia, Grayson Lethbridge, Jack Hatfield, Hunter Proia, Eli McIntyre, Vivienne Lethbridge, Elizabeth Hatfield, Cole Lethbridge, Will Hatfield, and Baby Weidema due in May.  Over the years Carole has worked at Atomic Energy Commission, Sherwood High School, Diehl & Diehl Insurance, Montgomery Mutual Insurance Company and she retired from Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab.  Carole and Warren moved to Leisure World in 2011.  She was predeceased by her husband, Warren, and her parents, Albert and Margaret Browning.  She was survived by her sister Adell Browning Milne of Bethesda, MD.  Carole passed away on December 5, 2022 surrounded by her three daughters.  She was a member of Ashton United Methodist Church and sang in the choir for 63 years.  Carole was a member of the Montgomery General Hospital Women's Board for years, along with volunteering at the Montgomery General Hospital Gift Shop and Thrift Shop.  She was also a member of the Sandy Spring Lions Club. A Memorial Service will be held at the Inter-Faith Chapel, 3680 South Leisure World Blvd, Silver Spring, MD 20906 on December 14, 2022 at 11:00 am with a luncheon immediately following the service at the Leisure World Crystal Ballroom Club House I, 3700 North Leisure World Blvd, Silver Spring, MD  20906.  Donations in Memory of our mother Carole B.
